Behind The Song: Logan Park

I inspired to write this song after walking through a local park named Logan Circle, a very affluent area, near my home around midnight. A time when the homeless come to sleep in the park. As I wandered around the park and walking so quietly near to their dreams, I thought to myself “How can this be?”, . . . .only blocks away from the White House and the Nations Capital.

At that moment these forgotten souls seemed to be nameless faces “lost in the American dream”.

I asked myself “How can this be?” – but the real answer is “Who let this be?”.

In reality we all let this be.

MARCH 27 (Washington, D.C.) – Musical activist, singer and songwriter Robert Miranda will perform the poignant “Addy’s Song,”at PetConnect Rescue’s March 29 Casino Night Gala & Auction. Inspired by Miranda’s effort to get his adopted shelter dog, Atticus (AKA Addy), to trust him, the songs honors Addy and shelter pets everywhere.

“Addy was badly abused and has very severe PTSD,” Miranda says. “He is always on high alert and thinks someone is about to hurt him.” Miranda continues, “Addy’s constant fear of everything around him seemed so unnatural. Addy seemed so sad and afraid of life itself. The song is really my attempt to understand why Atticus is so afraid – but really I can never know.” The emotional music video is streaming now.

Miranda releases his debut album, Exposed, April 15, 2014. Co-produced by Miranda, Nate Jolley (of The Jolly Twins Group), and bassist/composer Tyler Sherman, Exposed is a searing statement on the apathy and political issues dividing America. A labor of love, the self-released album was primarily recorded and mixed in Miranda’s Washington, D.C. home studio. Venerated FOH sound engineer Horace G. Ward (Usher, Lady GaGa, Beyonce, Prince) lived with Miranda for weeks at a time while editing and mixing the album. Miranda has studied guitar and music theory with The Peabody Institute’s Lawrence Hoffman, Sanjay Mishra (known for his Blue Incantation collaboration with The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia), and Herman Meyer of the Washington Conservatory of Music.
